"True Colours”Autism Support Service

Funded by the Social Welfare Department (SWD) through Lotteries Fund, SAHK initiated a two and a-half years pilot project in April 2016. In response to the different needs of persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), the Project provides diverse and comprehensive support services to young persons with High Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder (HFA) and their families/carers, organisations and the frontline rehabilitation practitioners that serving the persons with ASD.The service has been regularized in October 2018.

    Service Objectives:
  1. Assist young persons with HFA:
    • To develop and strengthen their adaptations skills in different social situations, interpersonal communication skills, develop further studies or career paths and establish support network, so that they can face challenges at different stages of life.
  2. Assist parents/carers of young persons with HFA:
    • To understand the needs and challenges of young persons with HFA at different ages, so that parents/carers can support them in a better way.
  3. Assist tertiary institutes, organisations and corporations:
    • To know the needs of young persons with HFA in learning and working adaptation, encourage them to accept and employ young persons with HFA, so that they can integrate into campus life and working environment.
  4. Support organisations and their frontline rehabilitation practitioners that serving the persons with ASD:
    • To understand the characteristics and needs of persons with ASD, enhance frontline rehabilitation practitioners' knowledge and skills in handling persons with ASD.
Target Clientele:
  • 15 years old or above, young persons with HFA and with normal intelligence (Asperger syndrome) and their parents/carers
  • Tertiary Institutes that provide educational services to young persons with HFA
  • Organisations or corporations that intend to employ or have been hiring young persons with HFA
  • Organisations (subvented by the Social Welfare Department) and their frontline rehabilitation practitioners
    Service Content:
  1. Support service to young persons with HFA
    • According to the unique needs of each young person with HFA, individualised integrated programme would be tailor-made by corresponding case manager (registered social worker), including adaptation skills to different social situations, interpersonal communication skills, further studies and career paths support, with comprehensive follow-up.
  2. Support service to parents/carers of young persons with HFA
    • To provide counseling, sharing seminars, subject talks and support network for parents/carers.
  3. Job matching and on-job support service
    • To provide training, job matching, on-job support for young persons with HFA, and employers that intend to employ or have been hiring young persons with HFA.
  4. Training and consultation service for frontline rehabilitation practitioners
    • To provide telephone and on-site consultation services with corresponding follow-up plans for organisations and their frontline rehabilitation practitioners.
  5. ASD Consultation Hotline – 2336 8855
    • Provide information about ASD and experience sharing in handling ASD cases. Persons with HFA, their parents/carers, frontline practitioners from social welfare organizations or educational setting are welcomed to call.
