Children and Family Support Service

Special Child Care Centres

The Association has 9 special child care centre, 5 of which also offer early education and training services, and 2 offer residential service. Through the integrated education and therapeutic programmes, they aim to elicit their intrinsic qualities and provide holistic development of the child through focusing on their gross motor, cognitive, self-care, language and communication, fine motor and social development aspects. The units also provide comprehensive services to the child and the family including parenting education and skills training, parental counseling, social work and referrals, primary education referral, meals service, transportation service and basic care, so that both the child and the parents can enjoy the time spent with us.

Target Clientele:

Children with special needs aged from 2 to 6 years old, including autism, developmental delay, specific learning difficulties, physical handicap etc.

Scope of Service:

  • Education and Therapy
    • Using Conductive Education and child-centred approach, focus will be made onthe individual needs of the child. In addition, through the combined effort of the trans-disciplinary team, the integration of the teaching and therapeutic curriculum, and a stimulating environment, the learning capability and the child’s potential will be enhanced.
    • Each child will be assigned to different groups based on the motor, cognitive capability and his/her special needs. Each group will have an average of 6 children with similar needs, so that through the interaction within the small group, they will learn, encourage and motivate each other. Based on needs, the results of the training will be further enhanced with the addition of individual training.
    • Through implementing the thematic approach, the learning of knowledge, skills and attitude will be integrated into classes and daily living through implementing thematic approach.

 

  • Support to Parents
  • To support and encourage participation, so that we can establish a partnership with the parents in raising and educating the children.
  • To enhance the effects of parenting skills through different workshops, classes, small groups and talks. Also the bonding with the child will be tighter and the results of home training will be maximized.
  • To assist the parents to alleviate their stress through applying professionally recognized approaches, including "3 P- Positive Parenting Programme” and "Narrative Therapeutic group”
  • To enrich the parents’ resources and skills on parenting through the setting up of library on books and toys for lending, story reading by parents etc.

 

  • Caring Service
  • The meals are monitored by the nurses and prepared by the cooks. This will provide a nutritious and well balanced diet to the children.
  • The nurse will provide basic nursing care and follow-up on the medical appointments.
  • To provide transportation for children living within the district concerned.

Facilities:

The units have different kinds of special facilities, so as to enhance the holistic development of the children

Computers

To increase the learning interest and the enrich the its content through the use of desk top computers, tablet computers, white board with LCD and different kinds of softwares.

(Sensory Integrative Room)

To enhance the learning ability and development of children with autism and sensory integrative handicap through the installation of sensory integrative equipment and related training programmes

Multi- sensory room

To enable the children to freely explore through the provision of multi-sensory equipment in a safe environment.

Fun Gym (Gross Motor Room)

To develop the gross motor, coordination and confidence through the provision of gross motor equipment and rock climbing wall.

Library and Toy Library Corner

To provide plenty of books and toys to encourage the children to read and learn to share with others.

Operating Hours:

Monday to Friday, from 8a.m. to 5p.m.(No service on public holidays and designated holidays by the centre. All boarders have to go for home leave every Friday afternoon for family re-union)

Service Fees

According to the policy of the Social Welfare Department

Withdrawal Procedure:

Children over 6 years of age will be discharged from the centre. For the children who under the age of 6 and want to withdraw the service, should give one month’s advance written notice to the centre.

Application Procedure:

The social workers or medical social workers will make referrals to the Pre-school Central Referral System of the Social Welfare Department. The Unit, upon receiving the application from the System, will arrange for interview to assess the child and meet the Selection and Review Board. If passed, the application will be processed for formal admission.
